An unusual Maryland State Park that's made up mostly of dredged material from Chesapeake shipping channels and accessible only by water.
Decent fishing nearby in the spring/fall. Nice place to anchor up and hang out
Great place to visit on the boat however if you don't like crowds don't come on the weekend.
The island, initially a controversial project involving dredge from the bay, has become a haven for wildlife (especially birds!) and boaters alike. Wade off your boat and take a spin around the island on a free bicycle 'rental' or rent a campsite overnight. Enjoy a Chesapeake Bay treasure... not a natural formation, but one that's shown great benefit.
Great place to take the family! A must is the bike/walking trail, free bikes to use. They have a volleyball net, camping and plenty of bird watching. They always have something going on for the kids. Check out the calendar when you get to the island. Say hi to park ranger Molly she is awesome.
